About Our Fine Jewelry

For generations, Gump’s has featured distinctive jewelry coveted for its remarkable beauty and superb quality. From everyday to special occasion, our collection ranges from unique pieces by renowned designers to estate pieces and extraordinary creations by our own jewelers. We offer jewelry with only the finest materials, including natural gemstones. All metals are platinum, 14- to 18-karat gold or sterling silver.  Many of our sterling silver pieces are rhodium-plated or otherwise protected to resist tarnishing. Our beaded necklaces are hand strung and knotted with silk threads to ensure fluidity and strength. Gemstones are natural and may vary slightly in color, shape and size.

With proper care, Gump's fine jewelry can become a treasured family heirloom. Here are some general tips that will help you preserve your pieces. We strongly recommend that whenever in doubt, err on the side of caution and see your professional jeweler.

For all fine jewelry, it is best to limit exposure to the following factors:

Cleaners & Chlorine
Harsh, abrasive cleaners, household bleach and chlorine can damage or discolor precious metals (platinum, gold and silver),
harm some colored gemstones and cause hard-to-remove buildup and dull scratches.

Personal Care Products
It’s always best to apply makeup, perfume, lotion and hairspray before putting on your jewelry.

Keep in mind that a little goes a long way — pearls and most gemstones should never be soaked in water or worn while bathing.
Be sure to dry your pieces thoroughly, especially before storing in an enclosed space.

Extreme Temperatures
Always keep jewelry away from extreme heat or cold, which can fracture a gemstone and compromise a setting.

Wearing Your Jewelry

Dust, pollution and daily wear can dull gemstones and scratch the surfaces of platinum, gold and silver. Avoid damaging your jewelry by keeping in mind the following:

• Timeworn prongs and clasps can loosen a stone, so check your jewelry regularly.
• Protect from impact against hard surfaces.
• Never wear pearl earrings or necklaces when getting your hair colored.
• Wash your jewelry periodically using mild dish soap and warm water, making sure to dry completely with a soft cloth before putting it away.
• Seriously soiled jewelry should be cleaned professionally.

Storing Your Jewelry

• Before storing your jewelry, wipe each piece with a clean soft cloth.
• Store each piece individually to protect metals from scratches, and diamonds and gemstones from losing their luster.
Place it in its own container, compartment or – if you prefer using a jewelry box – a soft pouch.
• Do not place silver jewelry directly in contact with wood surfaces.
• If you're not planning on wearing a piece for a long time, thoroughly dry it and keep it in a self-sealing plastic bag.
